Daniel Mack
Founding Fellow

Dan is an artist working in natural forms. For 25 years, he has made his living making rustic furniture, art and architectural elements.  He is the author of five books and has been teaching workshops in his craft since 1982. He started the Woodlander Gatherings after noticing people in his workshops enjoyed the off-hours visiting and sharing as much as the technical matters of building.  This has led him to study more about the WHY of making.  He is at work on a new book, The Wayward Artist,  that  explores the often overlooked needs in all of us that get fed by the acts of making something.  He writes about the unusual and unique “language” of objects and object making and how things can speak in a special way.

Online Course

Join bricoleur Daniel Mack and a group of 15 fellow Makers for a very special exploration of imagination through sculpting objects with natural materials. Gather materials from your own backyard, and work with collections that Mack assembles from the group. You'll explore different themes and share images of your pieces, gaining insight and inspiration from your fellow Makers as you discover making meaning through making.

Imaginal Institute Gallery of Wondrous Objects
Dan has been the inspiration for this brand new element of the Imaginal Institute website: a virtual gallery of sculptures and bricolages, writings and musings. Its first visual art entries have been selected from pieces created in his course, Imagination Matters. Click here to visit the gallery -- BYO chardonnay!

Crafts and Spirituality
Dan is working on a writing and oral history project on the soul of craft-making. He will be interviewing master craftspeople on their explorations into the magic and meaning of making. This material will be available published in print, eBook, and digital (CD or DVD) from from Meandering Press, the Imaginal Institute's publishing arm.
