Cynthia King, Ph.D.
Founding Fellow
Cynthia King has 30 years of experience as a communication and organizational development consultant, facilitator and trainer. She is the founder and principal ofCommunication Catalysts, an organizational consulting firm, and a founding partner in The Wisdom Way, through which she offers women’s retreats and guides ceremonies and rites of passage. The Wisdom Way is also the parent organization of Wisdom Way Press, which publishes books that offer alternative approaches to everyday challenges, touch the soul, and guide us through the transitions of our lives.
Cynthia has consulted with a wide variety of government agencies, both large and small family corporations, non-profit and educational organizations, and community groups around a range of key organizational topics including:
- Interpersonal, organizational, and intercultural communication
- Managing change and transitions
- Transforming conflicts: moving from power-over to power-with
- Co-creating collaborative teams, partnerships, and organizations
- Building personal leadership capacity
- Facilitator training, meetings management, and strategic planning

Cynthia specializes in helping organizations and businesses respond to the complex needs of a diverse workforce in a rapidly changing global environment. Her past clients include: the U.S. Forest Service, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Economic Development Council of Los Angeles County, the Family Service Agency of Santa Barbara County, Amgen, Agilent Technologies, California State University at Chico, Plumas Bank, Northern California Migrant Head Start, The International Center for Earth Concerns, the Agricultural Research Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Santa Barbara Special Olympics, the Contemporary Arts Forum, the Santa Barbara Mental Health Association, Smucker’s Quality Beverages, and the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps.
In addition to her consulting work, Dr. King served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras, and has taught communication courses at California State University, Chico, Feather River College, Antioch University, Santa Barbara, and Pacifica Graduate Institute, where she currently teaches Practices of Collaboration and Reconciliation. She also taught Creating Partnership Organizations at Schumacher College in southern England in Spring 2007. Dr. King holds an MA degree in Intercultural Communication and a Doctorate in Mythology and Depth Psychology, with an emphasis in organizational applications.
